Do you think that having a blog could actually benefit you in the future?

Publishing, marketing, and technology have been intertwined since the very beginnings of human communication began to emerge as more than plain animalistic exchanges. The entire purpose has been to share information. Information gets shared by wrapping it in neat little packets called “content” and passing it forward in some way.

Grunting, spoken words, cave paintings, printing press, telegraph, radio, television, Internet. That is an extremely simplistic and compressed history of content, but it gets the point across that technology is forever allowing us to communicate deeper messages at a much faster pace to further distances than ever before. So the question:

Do you think that having a blog could actually benefit you in the future?

Absolutely! In social media, a blog is an important component in marketing your business. As an individual, it is also definitely beneficial to market and brand yourself through a blog.

Having a blog up for your long term use will help you as a professional, it helps you market your skills in being an expert in your field. So let’s say you’re a chiropractor, rather than just having a physical business, you can also have a virtual business (a blog) that helps you give valuable information about optimal health as well as maybe provide information about having a healthy spine.

Basically a blog is your personality, you create a blog based on your likes and dislikes, your character, individuality and other interesting information that you may want to share with your readers. A blog helps bring a community of like-minded individuals who value the information you provide for them.

A blog helps you not only brand yourself as a business, but it also helps brand you as YOU. In this information age, blogs are now replacing resumes. Soon enough a resume will be historic, worn out or outdated. Most recruiters are now searching the web not only on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, but they’re also looking for links on those social sites to a website or a blog you’ve created. This is how Job Opportunities are being discovered and how influential you can be in the eyes of potential employers or business opportunities.

Blog In Plain English

Brian Solis himself points out about attracting customers through blogs just by being an expert and convincing people of that fact. The fact that you’re an authority.

Web 2.0 – An intro in 5 minute

Isn’t that amazing? The idea of ‘the machine’ being us. Maybe all of those Orwellian prophecies of doom and gloom caused by reliance on computers aren’t quite true. Maybe they’re still true and we need to define a better backup system. Either way, the idea of being the machine itself is fascinating.

The last video below is very “Technical”, don’t worry about understanding all of it, just take in what you can.
