How Musicians Brand Themselves on Social Media

Although this is a short post today, I want to share this with you all on how easy it is to brand yourself online. A friend forwarded me a video on Facebook and I thought, this is absolutely amazing! As I watched her play her drum kit I thought to myself, wow it looks like she’s having the time of her life and all from just playing cover songs!

With the right tools, you can easily brand yourself with social media. They’re many musicians creating viral videos of themselves such as this and publishing it on YouTube.

Before you watch the video though I want to share how branding yourself can be as easy as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. In this case the drummer “Meytal Cohen” recorded herself and posted her recordings on YouTube.

Here are the 3 things she did to brand herself:

Production of Music

All her sample songs are from cover tunes. All she did was mic up her drum-set and used editing software such as pro-tools. She basically played to the music in the background and recorded her drum tracks. Then she edited the tracks for clean production and final copy.

Production of Video

Aside from recording audio, video footage was taken in different angles front, side, back and on top. The footage was then edited and cut to different frames. The tracks were then laid on top of the video. After all the mastering of audio and video it was then uploaded to:

You Tube

She created an account on youtube and uploaded her final version of cover songs for the whole world to view.

Here is a video she made to brand herself as a musician. The cover tune is:

To take this even further, you can also create an account on Facebook and Twitter to Brand yourself and get more exposure. These social sites should be interconnected with each other and used as distribution channels to not only engage with your followers and fans but also build a community that clearly defines your BRAND.  These social sites should then bring you back to a hub such as your website or blog. This is what personal branding is all about.

The Future of Technology, Where Is It Headed?

How many of you remember when you were young listening to music or watching a good movie?

Do you remember the betamax and vhs tapes? How about 8 track tapes, cassette tapes, cds and huge laser disc?

Now we have iPods, podcasts and even live streaming video! It’s amazing how technology has improved the way we live and the way we take in information at a click of a mouse or touch screen, how it’s ready available to the masses. We don’t need to run down to the nearest record store to purchase that great album we just heard over the radio. If we want to watch a live show across the globe we can tune into “live streaming” on YouTube for a big show like U2. I could not phantom that in my wildest dreams when I was young and growing up, but now it’s happening! A Revolution!

The way we communicate has changed dramatically as well. How many of you remember the rotary telephones?

Then came the touch pad and ginormous cell phones. Now we have social media and smart phones that helps us connect with thousands and even millions of people. Information again is ready available at lightning speeds. Information is delivered quickly and efficiently. If I want recommendations to the latest restaurant or question(s) answered on (Insert Question Here) I can tweet about it and within minutes get the answer I’m looking for.

“I believe as innovation continues to grow, technology will change in the future.”

I can imagine only good things that will take place with the technology we are using. Of course we can use this technology for good or bad, but for me I’m going to use it for good. Ideas are like viruses and the information we share can travel very quickly with the use of social media and smart phones.

We now have no excuse to make our world a better place by sharing our ideas and thoughts in social media. We now can make our living on the Internet by helping other people. We all can spread peace throughout the world or help people across the globe who are less fortunate because of their circumstances and technology limitations. We can donate by text to worthy causes and natural disasters and make a difference in the lives of others.

Technology now and in the future will allow “US” or “YOU” to be influential without any limitations. You are only limited based on your imagination. All walls and barriers have been broken down because of this Social Media Revolution. It is our job as human beings to continue to do good and evolve with it.

Do you think that having a blog could actually benefit you in the future?

Publishing, marketing, and technology have been intertwined since the very beginnings of human communication began to emerge as more than plain animalistic exchanges. The entire purpose has been to share information. Information gets shared by wrapping it in neat little packets called “content” and passing it forward in some way.

Grunting, spoken words, cave paintings, printing press, telegraph, radio, television, Internet. That is an extremely simplistic and compressed history of content, but it gets the point across that technology is forever allowing us to communicate deeper messages at a much faster pace to further distances than ever before. So the question:

Do you think that having a blog could actually benefit you in the future?

Absolutely! In social media, a blog is an important component in marketing your business. As an individual, it is also definitely beneficial to market and brand yourself through a blog.

Having a blog up for your long term use will help you as a professional, it helps you market your skills in being an expert in your field. So let’s say you’re a chiropractor, rather than just having a physical business, you can also have a virtual business (a blog) that helps you give valuable information about optimal health as well as maybe provide information about having a healthy spine.

Basically a blog is your personality, you create a blog based on your likes and dislikes, your character, individuality and other interesting information that you may want to share with your readers. A blog helps bring a community of like-minded individuals who value the information you provide for them.

A blog helps you not only brand yourself as a business, but it also helps brand you as YOU. In this information age, blogs are now replacing resumes. Soon enough a resume will be historic, worn out or outdated. Most recruiters are now searching the web not only on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, but they’re also looking for links on those social sites to a website or a blog you’ve created. This is how Job Opportunities are being discovered and how influential you can be in the eyes of potential employers or business opportunities.

You + Blog = Success

Here are some videos that I recommend, Enjoy! :)

Blog In Plain English

Brian Solis himself points out about attracting customers through blogs just by being an expert and convincing people of that fact. The fact that you’re an authority.

Web 2.0 – An intro in 5 minute

Isn’t that amazing? The idea of ‘the machine’ being us. Maybe all of those Orwellian prophecies of doom and gloom caused by reliance on computers aren’t quite true. Maybe they’re still true and we need to define a better backup system. Either way, the idea of being the machine itself is fascinating.

The last video below is very “Technical”, don’t worry about understanding all of it, just take in what you can.
